Mindful Self-Compassion

A self-study exploring emotional well-being and resilience through fostering mindful self-compassion

Saanich Inlet Reflections

I am a mother, sister, daughter, wife, and teacher. I am a seventh generation settler.

I was raised on Vancouver Island, on the traditional and unceded territories of the W̱SÁNEĆ First Nations. I now live, work, and play on the traditional and unceded territories of the Qayqayt First Nation and Halq'eméylem speaking peoples.

I am grateful for the work and learning that I do every day. My family

inspires me to continue to grow, explore, and act in ways that nurture

our individual, interconnected, and environmental well-being.

Leadership

Knowing & Identity - There are many ways of knowing. Knowing is a personal and social act of the heart and mind; it is holistic, interconnected, relational, dynamic and diverse. It includes being informed, being ethical, listening, and adopting inquiry as a stance. It is grounded in an reflective understanding of ourselves as we critically assess the roles of personal values and assumptions in educational decision making and leadership.

I used to think, but nowI know...

I stepped into my Master's degree program with the hope that I would build the leadership skills and knowledge necessary to support learners and staff in educational contexts. What I didn't expect was how transformative this learning journey would be, far beyond the limits of mere professional development. As I reflect upon my research and personal growth, I am so grateful for the connections, relationships, and experiences that I will be taking into the next chapter of my journey. With the ongoing support of my training and networks, I am confident that these powerful mindful self-compassion practices will continue to foster resilience, nurture emotional well-being, and change systems through more equitable individual and collective action

both now and for generations to come.
